Salve Orbis!

Medicines to some,

And an advice to a few,

From some city or a poor slum,

Everyone looks upto you!

While many explain, the others stay mum,

A lot shall cry in lieu,

Plenty shall create mayhem,

You ought to get it all through!

Tears in the eyes of some,

Smiles on the faces of few,

Things that would make you numb,

But you still got to continue!

The word Doctor, derived from a Latin word ‘docere’ which means ‘to teach’. Wonder Why? Because this profession is not defined by the humongous amount of books you read but by the experience you gain by tolling years and years in ICUs, OPDs and wards… by dealing with patients… by seeing life and death. Apropos, a doctor does not just profit in terms of the medical skills, but also gets to acquaint with the unadulterated version of human emotions. Not many in this world would want to witness that real close. People would argue that it is a regular affair in the profession and that is what you signed up for, although, no medical school or medical literature can prepare you for the unexpected that awaits you. Remember, being a mere witness to the old age, diseased and the dead, made King Siddhartha renounce his throne and turn to spiritualism.

So, here is a subtle attempt at unveiling the emotional clutter in this noble profession through the eyes of a young doctor. There shall be stories, anecdotes and narratives… that are occasionally spoken of but never written about!

Stay Tuned.
